The "R3" shutter option is a modification to a specific shutter which aids to minimize the effects of high ambient temperatures affecting shutter operation. I.e. for applications utilizing mercury arc lamps, lasers, and other coherent and non-coherent light sources where the shutter will be exposed to high ambient heat, we strongly recommend the "R3" enhancement. This modification was mainly designed for microscopy applications, however, it has found usefulness in other applications where the shutter is required to operate without adhesion (sticking) in the open or closed position. When ordering the "R3" option, the shutter would, in most applications be equipped with the "ZM" blade coating. However, the R3 option can be included with any blade option.
Typical application for the "R3" High Temperature application would be as illustrated in the photo where a shutter was equipped with a microscope mount (in this case a #24 mount for an Olympus IX or BX microscope) for a fluorescence application.
