See Us At:
SPIE Security, Defense, & Sensing Conference,
April 6-8, 2010

We will be attending SPIE Security, Defense, & Sensing Conference at the Orlando World Center Marriott Resort & Convention Center, 6-8 April 2010.

At this conference, we will be showcasing our new patent pending shutter product, the UNIBLITZ® N-CAS® DSS Series shutters and the new ED12DSS shutter driver which operates at +12VDC. The DSS Series is the newest innovation from Vincent Associates, with enhanced reliability due to the significant reduction in moving parts. The DSS Series contains only two distinct moving parts, the drive ring and the blades.

UNIBLITZ®II N-CAS®NS SERIES Shutters Equal Simplicity
and Reliability

Vincent Associates, the manufacturer of UNIBLITZ® and now UNIBLITZ®II shutters, has again endeavored to provide an even more reliable shutter product for the Photonics industry with the introduction of the patent pending N-CAS® (Non-Contact Actuation System) the NS series shutter.  The UNIBLITZ®II N-CAS® NS series is a new innovation in shutter design from Vincent Associates. The devices' reliability has been enhanced by significantly reducing the number of moving parts. The total number of moving parts has been reduced to six, five of which are the shutter blades themselves!  The activating mechanism is non-contact and has shown to increase its reliability through testing over similar type shutter designs.

Three aperture sizes are available in the NS series, the NS15 (15mm - similar in overall size to that of a US Half Dollar), the NS25 (25mm aperture - similar in overall size to the UNIBLITZ CS25 and shown in the accompanying photo), and the NS45 (45mm aperture - similar in overall size to the UNIBLITZ CS45).

The N-CAS® device is simple by comparison. There are no solenoids, no linkages, and no external damping system. The damping system has been integrated into the device to provide long lasting, quiet operation. The only protruding component is the unit's actuator coil held in place by a heat sink / hold down bracket. The external mounting surfaces of the device are flat which make the shutter simple to integrate into user applications. The unit can also be configured for uni-stable or bi-stable operation at the time of purchase. (Uni-stable operation is powered open - returns closed under its own power and bi-stable operation only requires power to open and close the device.)

The N-CAS® device will find applications in Infrared Systems (where high reliability - millions of operations, a wide temperature range and highly emissive blade coatings are required). Other applications include shuttering Coherent and Non-coherent Light Sources, Industrial and Biomedical Microscopy, Vision Systems (CCD and video systems), low level laser switching, and many other applications where reliability, wide temperature range, ease of application design implementation, etc are required for the most exacting customer specifications.

To take advantage of the N-CAS® device's low power capability two new single channel controllers are available, the VDM1000 (housed for bench top applications) and the VDM1000B (OEM board level controller - 3U EURO configuration).  These have been designed and simplified to allow operation in either a uni-stable or bi-stable mode. The unit's power supply is external. This will allow easy integration of the either the housed or un-housed controller into a user OEM application. The unit will also operate on a user supplied power supply. The un-housed unit will be in a EURO card configuration to allow the device to fit into a EURO 3U rack. The unit is triggered by a TTL pulse into a BNC connector.  In addition, the device can be triggered to operate from an RS-232C port.

Three UNIBLITZ®II N-CAS® NS series aperture sizes are now available, the NS15 (15mm), the NS25 (25mm aperture), and the NS45 (45mm aperture).  Please contact us for further information.
